I downloaded this app because I thought I would be able to access things to learn the language, but that didn’t happen and it didn’t work for me. Anyways I uninstalled and I kept receiving emails from you guys! It was everyday and it was annoying!!! Like can you do anything that can annoy someone! It certainly didn’t make me want to come back!😡 - autor:dianna_66 - title:Emails

  • Milestones

    By 4
These are a colossal waste of time. If you’re going to try to simulate an open ended conversation, then there can’t be one exact correct answer. Sometimes the program is looking for a general statement, and sometimes a specific one. It’s often impossible to tell from the pictures. It’s more an exercise of trying to learn the pictures than the language, and it teaches you to memorize the responses word for word (after you inevitably get it wrong the first time) rather than teaching you to formulate your own response. The milestones are a horribly designed waste of time. - autor:Trumpy Sessions - title:Milestones

  • I’m truly baffled

    By 2
We used RS Japanese through a school program for a year. I simply don’t understand why this program is so popular. It claims to teach language the way you learned your first language—immersion and listening—except it forgets/ignores the fact that we are adults and don’t need to learn in such a frustrating and painstaking slow way. Plus many of the images make no sense, the written translations are in mixed hiragana/katakana/kanji (sorry not even children learn to read just by looking at random strings of characters!), and the phrases that may actually be useful to a traveler aren’t taught. Really how is “the man is sleeping” a more useful phrase than “where’s the bathroom”?? I’m beyond baffled as to why Rosetta Stone is considered the best of anything. We quit, bought a book and a subscription to a website with video instruction (waaaay less expensive), and have progressed more in a month than in the entire previous year. - autor:whoeverville - title:I’m truly baffled

  • Great software...when it’s free

    By 4
Overall, I really like the Rosetta Stone app for these reasons: 1. It’s fun and challenging to try to figure out new vocabulary that isn’t obvious from the picture they give you. The theory of the program is that people learn better if they figure out language from context rather than memorizing strict translations. It makes each lesson more enjoyable than just reading flash cards and helps give you a deeper understanding of the language. 2. Lessons are organized in a way that makes you feel like your making progress. The layout of the app is very pretty and clean. 3. There are a lot of additional features for you to use in the Extended Learning section. You can talk to people who know the language, listen to stories, or read through a little phrase book. With all of these nice things being said, I would never have paid for the software! Because: 1. There are very few opportunities to make up a sentence in the language you’re learning. You spend most of your time repeating what the app says word for word unless you take time to speak with a native. The app is great for listening skills and being able to repeat common phrases, but it’s terrible for learning grammar. I have gained little proficiency in being able to conjugate verbs or remembering certain vocabulary without the picture being in front of me. 2. There are features in the PC version of the software that aren’t available in the app. Writing exercises and some language learning games are unavailable in the app, but i think that learning to write helps enormously with language learning and being able to make your own sentences. It’s not as though these features couldn’t be added to the app, and I have no idea why they aren’t included because they really should be. 3. And this is the most important point. I think many people don’t realize that you get the full version of Rosetta Stone for free through you’re library. That is the only reason why I think it’s worth it to get the software. If I had gotten a subscription, I would have felt like I had wasted my money. The library subscription also allows you to use the app instead of just learning on a PC. It all syncs up very nicely. So overall, I like the app, but I would supplement it with both a grammar book and speaking exercises. And DO NOT pay for it! - autor:apl_luvr - title:Great software...when it’s free
